Note that, if I use this ISO file to install in Virtualbox with a predefined preseed.cfg, it runs fine automatically until I got the working Debian OS (no CD-ROM dialog box) but in a linode server, it's a problem because it doesn't have CD-ROM enabled in their BIOS. I tried few of the following and add it in the preseed.cfg but doesn't work at all (I notice that the 3rd method, the script only run after I click continue after specifying the CD-ROM path to /dev/sdb in the dialog box) 1) d-i partman/early_command string mount /dev/sdb /cdromĢ) d-i cdrom-detect/cdrom_device string /dev/sdb However, when I started it recently I've got message: No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key It works with live cd (xubuntu) and hard drive is visible (I was able to do a little backup from live cd). I have gone into bios and made my CDROM, my TSST corp CDD and my USB CDROM the first boot device. I was running my Debian (Acer laptop) for quite some time without much trouble. Every time i try to boot from the cd and it asks me to 'press any key' nothing happens and the OS loads. However i am still not satisfied with something. Since I want this to be automated, is there a way to mount this /dev/sdb automatically when the installation start before it scan the Disk? I couldn't find any preseed commands to skip this dialog box automatically. all right so i was able to boot using usb. So, I can go ahead manually specifying the installation medium at the input dialog box to be /dev/sdb, then when I click continue the installation continues, here is the screenshot how I specify /dev/sdb in the input box and the installation continues without problem: Presented the following dialog about 'No common CD-ROM drive was detected': Then when I boot this ISO using the /dev/sdb as the root drive, it can boot but Note that /dev/sdb is a second disk partition not a flash drive I get 0003 when trying to use a physical cd in the cdrom drive, or an ISO file of the CD. So, I get CDROM boot failure code 0003 instead of 0008. ![]() I modified this ISO file to automated with preseed.cfg, pack it using xorriso then write this ISO file into a disk called /dev/sdb using the following command: wget -O mini.iso CDROM boot failure code : 0003 Boot from CD-Rom failed FATAL: Could not read the boot disk. I'm now making a bootable Gparted usb stick and i'll see if that can help, although i have a feeling the drive is corrupted or dead.I'm trying to install Debian 10 using this official ISO file: I am sure its not a hardware related problem as I have already successfully installed another operating. Switch the SATA mode in the BIOS from IDE to AHCI. I have already tried the following two solutions without any success: sudo apt-get remove dmraid. I tried Paragon Partition and that wouldn't open either. sudo fdisk -l shows only /dev/sda1, the USB drive from which I am running the installation. I tried another version of it and that wouldn't open. ![]() I tried to use EaseUS to look at the partitions but it won't open. Even Disk Management won't open with them in the system, it just sits on "connecting to virtual disk service", plus windows doesn't feel right either - it takes much longer to boot up and installing software takes ages too. I then booted back into AHCI mode and both drives were there, but again the HDD wasn't accessible. However, the 2 partitions on the HDD had no sizes assigned, and if i tried to open one it crashed the system. I found the latest raid drivers on the AMD page and installed them and both the SSD and HDD appeared in this computer. The HDD still wouldn't boot in AHCI so i booted back into Raid mode and noticed in Device Manager that there were 2 items flagged under Storage as Raid Controllers. Not ideal but not the end of the world, and it now works fine. I took out the HDD and tried working on the SSD and that booted in AHCI mode with no problems, but needed to be initialised in Disk Management which required a full format.
